launch new services and rates
Since the archaeological site of Petra has joined the New 7 Wonders World has attracted increasingly large numbers of visitors. 
To preserve its integrity, but also to improve the level of acceptance, the Development Authority and Tourism in the region of Petra, has launched a series of initiatives aimed at expanding services within the site.
The proceeds from the increase in rates, in addition to covering the extension of the offer, will go towards the maintenance costs of a huge area that is still in the process of discovery and ongoing maintenance. To preserve its integrity, but also to improve the level of acceptance, the Development Authority and Tourism in the region of Petra, has launched a series of initiatives aimed at expanding services within the site. 
"The decision to raise fares was necessary to preserve the beauty of a place that is world's artistic heritage, but also to implement the intended level of hospitality to our visitors," said Luma al-Khatib, regional marketing manager Jordan Tourism Board. The new tariffs include free access to the site for the duration of the ticket, maps and brochures, a horse ride from the entrance to the Siq, guided tours leave every half hour from 7 to 15.00 in English or Arabic on the main routes for all individual visitors. Starting this November 1, when the rates (see table) will undergo further editing will be new services and facilities within the park, to make the visit more comfortable: new forms of environmentally friendly transport services, hospitality and interpretation of additional services, rest areas and information points, as well as eco toilets and a new more efficient system ticket.
