In the riots of 1820 until 1860, many were Calabrese and Catanzaro who spent their energies and their lives for the conquest of Italian unity and independence: Guglielmo Pepe, Francesco Stocco and Joseph Poerio Raffaele, Bernardo De Riso, Michele Morelli, Luigi Salvati, Giacinto De Jesse Louis Pascali, Francesco Monaco, and others.
